Made by Haviland & Co. Limoges France for Mayer & Co. of Indianapolis Indiana – fine porcelain bouillon cup w/ lid & saucer in red, yellow, white & pink rose pattern, with a red rose swag & abundant gold band pattern on cup & scalloped lid - blue band pattern with gold brushing on the catch plate w/ center filigree - The set dates from 1890’s with the cup measuring approx. 3 1/2" tall, 3 5/8" across, with the catch 5 3/8" across. The set is in excellent condition with only slight gold loss - The bowl and lid has some expected wear on the gold gilt twin handle and lift - Nice antique condition. No chips, nicks or repairs - beautiful red decorative pieces are in the same category as cobalt, only the very wealthy could afford the red pieces. Factories were burned during World War I - Victorians liked many small courses with elegant china to serve the course. Lavish & abundant gold on the edges, and ruby roses in intricate detail were the traits of early Haviland.
