- approx. 5” long – 1700 to 1800s - made of silver w/ floral & leaf design - this tool was a costly status symbol, and the owner would have proudly displayed – usually suspended from a chain & attached to a belt – usually double ended, pointed end used to clean teeth and nails, and the spoon-shaped end used to remove earwax - 17th-century English knew about plaque, which they called "scale" or "surf," and were encouraged by their doctors to scrape their teeth frequently
